Greenwashing
Simply defined, greenwashing is when a company promotes itself, its operations, or its products as being more environmentally oriented than they really are. Also known as “green sheen,” greenwashing is an attempt to deceive consumers by using deceptive advertising or unfounded claims about the environmental sensitivity or benefits of a product or service.
A second key function is the GBSC’s certification program for green burial cemeteries. Established in 2018, this program is the only recognized standard for green burial in Canada. It works by ensuring that cemeteries and consumers share the same expectations, based on clear, defensible principles.
The GBSC’s goal to make authentic green burial and green funeral practices available across all of Canada, to all Canadians, will be realized once we can also recognize green funeral service and product providers. We aspire to deliver this new service soon.
